How does a payment card work? – With a payment card, refugees can shop in the respective region, whether in retail stores or at vending machines.
– Cash cannot be withdrawn. Overdrafting is also not possible.
– If asylum seekers return purchased products, they will receive a credit for the purchase price.
– International transfers are not possible.
– The district says it can set a credit limit. If the limit is reached, no additional credit can be added to the card.
– Regardless of the payment card, asylum seekers continue to receive monthly pocket money of 100 to 180 euros, depending on their age.
– According to district administrator Martina Schweinsburg, the introduction in the Greiz district cost between 10,000 and 15,000 euros. A ticket costs the district between three and six euros. Each top-up costs one euro.
