At the request of a prosecutor from the Center for Comprehensive Attention to Victims of Sexual Abuse (CAIVAS) of the Casanare Section, a judge with a guarantee control function imposed a security measure in a prison center on Edilson Chaquea Betancourt, allegedly involved in sexual assaults against several teenagers who, through their families, reported what happened to the Attorney General’s Office.
Judicial police work showed that at least four minors were attacked, apparently by the defendant who had taken advantage of the classes he taught at a sports institution in Yopal (Casanare), from Monday to Friday, to subdue the victims. to sexual abuse.
Information in the possession of the Prosecutor’s Office shows that the attacks occurred between the months of June and September 2023.
Due to these events, Chaquea Betancourt was captured on a public street in the Casanareña capital by uniformed members of the National Police in compliance with a court order.
The Prosecutor’s Office charged the defendant with charges of violent sexual acts, aggravated sexual acts with a minor under 14 years of age, and sexual harassment. None of the charges were accepted.
The Prosecutor’s Office is carrying out the respective investigations to establish if there are other victims of the crimes accused of the defendant.
This week family members, parents and students held a sit-in in front of the Palace of Justice, in order to request the freedom of Chaquea Betancourt, those who came to the place asked for the situation to be clarified.
