There is an ordinance that prohibits this practice with treated or untreated water. This water mirror was created in the 60s to serve as a source from which to distribute the vital liquid to the city.

With the aim of safeguarding the integrity of the Lake of the Republic of Ciudad del Este, the Municipality of Esteña began the work of notifying all buildings and companies near the body of water that are eventually discharging their effluents into this body of water. The measure was adopted in compliance with a municipal ordinance.

The operation, led by the Environmental Management Directorate, focused on verifying compliance with Ordinance 33/23, which expressly prohibits the routing of sewage effluent and sewage pipes towards the lake, whether treated or not. This procedure involves extensive inspection work throughout the area, with the aim of guaranteeing compliance with current regulations.

According to the new provision, any building, business or infrastructure with pipes that flow into the lake must proceed to remove them. Those responsible have a period of 90 days to carry out this action once notified.

In this regard, engineer Tatiana Olmedo, head of Health and Hygiene of the Environmental Management Directorate, emphasized the importance of this measure to protect the quality of the lake and prevent contamination by effluents.

He explained that building owners and managers have been urged to adopt alternative systems, such as absorbent wells or connection to the Essap network, in compliance with the new ordinance that categorically prohibits the discharge of water into the lake, even if it has been treated. .
