Big names in table tennis have gathered in Hangzhou for the upcoming Asian Games, with Wang Chuqin and Fan Zhendong set to compete in the menās singles event. The Chinese Table Tennis Association recently announced the list of participants for the games, which are currently in the publicity period.
According to the associationās rules regarding the registration of Asian Games athletes, the entry list was determined based on factors such as the athletesā world rankings, technical and tactical characteristics, multi-event arrangement, doubles ranking, and performance of their main opponents.
The table tennis competition at the Asian Games consists of seven events, including menās and womenās teams, singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. The menās team will be represented by Wang Chuqin, Fan Zhendong, Ma Long, Lin Gaoyuan, and Liang Jingkun. Meanwhile, the womenās team includes Sun Yingsha, Wang Yidi, Chen Meng, Wang Manyu, and Chen Xingtong.
In the singles competition, Wang Chuqin and Fan Zhendong will represent the menās team, while Sun Yingsha and Wang Yidi will compete for the womenās team. The menās doubles will feature Wang Chuqin/Fan Zhendong and Lin Gaoyuan/Liang Jingkun, while the womenās doubles will see Sun Yingsha/Wang Manyu and Chen Meng/Wang Yidi teaming up. In the mixed doubles category, Wang Chuqin/Sun Yingsha and Lin Gaoyuan/Wang Yidi will participate.
The competition will follow an 11-point system per round, with the winner being the side that scores 11 points first or leads by 2 points after 10 draws. The singles and doubles matches will be best-of-seven games, while the team competitions will be best-of-five games.
The table tennis venue for the Asian Games is Gongshu Canal Sports Park Gymnasium, located in Gongshu District, Hangzhou. The venue includes a competition hall and a warm-up hall, which will be repurposed as a national fitness center after the games. The facility offers various sports and fitness spaces, including swimming pools, basketball courts, and badminton courts. The total construction area is 58,395 square meters, with a seating capacity of 6,928.
Designed in an oval shape inspired by the Liangzhu jade cong and incorporating the luster and smoothness of silk, the pavilion presents a light, classic, and iconic architectural form.
The Hangzhou Asian Games promises to be an exciting showcase of talent and skill in table tennis, with top players from around the world competing for a total of seven gold medals.
