After the bronze (with a defeat in the semifinal that still cries out for revenge) won at the Elite European Championships and after having made the competition, in recent days he was informed that the tests had been passed brilliantly. «Joining the sports group of the Police was what I wanted and above all I hoped it could materialize – explains Federico who is not in the skin of joy -. I will be able to train with greater serenity, because now my future will be more stable and I will have even more stimuli ».
The boxer from Porto Torres has just returned from a result that certainly did not gratify him despite being on the podium. «I think – he points out bitterly – that I have been wronged. I had won in that semifinal, the judges, on the other hand, saw me defeated 3-2. There were a lot of boos from the audience. I know it was little consolation. Among other things, in the final I would have met Molina, the Spaniard who then won and whom I beat five times. I am convinced that I would have put the gold medal around my neck. A pity, when I think about it it hurts me a lot. “
Serra’s next goal is the Paris Olympics. «I am thinking of this appointment and I hope to be in top form. In the meantime, I train in Assisi, in the Federal Center, for the Mediterranean Games, which will take place from 26 June to 2 July. A difficult tournament but I can do well ».
The Turritan boxer is very clear on the possibility of becoming a professional: «I don’t think so, I’m 28 but eventually I’ll think about it only after the Olympics. In Italy there is not a lot of activity. I would fight once a year, too little for the sacrifice this sport requires. Today, it is useless to deny it, being a professional boxer does not give you a living. This is why I believe that I will not pass prof. “
Domenico Mura is very happy, the teacher who raised him, trained and discovered him for a long time, making him known on the national and international stage. «I’m happy for Federico – says Mura, puffing up his chest -, he’s a boy who deserved this recognition. Now he can dedicate himself with even more dedication to the sport he loves. I’m ready to put my hand on the fire that will take away other satisfactions ».
Now he will train in Rome at the Fiamme Oro sports center – adds Federico’s teacher – but he will always be my student whom I will follow closely. I suffered more than him when the verdict did not reward him in the semifinal match of the Europeans. For me, but I’m not the only one to say it, he had clearly won. Unfortunately it was not the first time that Federico has been wronged ».
