On July 7th, Beijing time, according to the Japanese media Kyodo News, the Tokyo Olympic Athletes Village, located in the Harumi Seaside area of the capital, was opened in advance on Wednesday, mainly for officials of the team and delegation, because the new crown virus pandemic opened about two weeks later. There is uncertainty as to how it will develop during the Tokyo Olympics.
This 44-hectare athlete’s village is equipped with fever clinics and other modified anti-viral measures. It will officially welcome athletes participating in the Olympic Games next Tuesday, 10 days before the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics, and serve as their base until August 8. 3 days after the closing of the Tokyo Olympics on 8th.
Officials eligible to enter the village are those responsible for preparing for the welcome of their team athletes and supporting them throughout the Olympic Games.
These support staff need to use special buses and other special transportation methods to go directly to the village from the Japanese airport. They can only go to locations that have submitted their applications in advance and are required to dine in restaurants that open on Wednesday.
The athletes’ village will be officially opened to participants of the Tokyo Paralympic Games from August 17 to September 8. It is estimated that about 18,000 athletes and officials will stay during the Tokyo Olympics.
As a precautionary measure against the new crown virus, athletes at the Tokyo Olympics need to limit their stay in the village to a minimum, checking in five days before the game, and prospective athletes checking in seven days before. They must leave the athlete’s village within two days after the end of the competition.
The fever clinic established in May is part of the effort to improve the fight against the new coronavirus pandemic. It will provide medical services and polymerase chain reaction tests for people suspected of being infected with the virus. Residents of the village are required to be tested for COVID-19 every day.
