INFECTED RAIN – Time

INFECTED RAIN
Time
(Nu Metal | Modern Metal)

Label: Napalm Records
Format: (LP)

Release: 09.02.2024

The Moldovan musicians around front appearance and vocal power Elena “Lena Scissorhands” Cataraga, called INFECTED RAIN, have existed since 2008 and have caused a lot of excitement with their five previous albums and have also acquired numerous fans at many festivals and tours. Somehow the band, despite a certain perceived ubiquity in recent years, passed me by primarily. I wanted to change that with the sixth work “Time”.

Speaking of change: A lot has happened in the band structure in the last few years. We lost two members last year. While bassist Vladimir Babich was replaced by the American Alice Lane, Sergey Babich’s position on second guitar remains vacant.

But fans don’t have to worry about what my research and intensive catching up on the predecessors revealed. There is still their own version of Nu Metal, paired with modern elements, which are now pushed a little more. The level of hardness is always quite high, Lena angrily vomits out her violent shouts and semi-clean singing, while a lot is going on in the background. Intricate Nu Metal riffs meet clanging bass and aggressive drums, while dark synths create atmosphere. The skillful clatter is repeatedly interrupted by haunting moments, which are sometimes instrumental, but are also often dominated by the front singer’s clean vocals.

It’s not that easy to get into “Time”, but the latter parts in particular help with its catchiness and recognition value. INFECTED RAIN have definitely further refined this, as the mix sounds quite unique. Due to the increased modern metal elements, the album sounds fresh and fresh for a nu metal work and makes this release all the more exciting.

The band doesn’t forego surprises either and with “Never To Return” initially delivers crazy soundscapes that are endowed with a certain mysticism. However, the escalation still follows later. “The Answer Is You” should also be mentioned despite its djish riffs, as there are also quite memorable moments that are easy on the ear. And the final song “Paura” should also be mentioned as a listening tip. With spoken vocals in Moldovan and reduced sounds, it builds up an enormous tension that continues to intensify and crush everything in an oppressive and threatening way. In addition to the aforementioned doom influence, the band also doesn’t stop at other genres such as metalcore or groove metal, which ensures further variety and unpredictability. The final instrumental “A Second Or A Thousand Years” gives you a quick breather with calm but threatening soundscapes before you hit the repeat button.

“Time” takes time, as the title suggests, but it is worth investing for genre fans, as the sixth work appears intense, well thought-out and profound, but also brings a breath of fresh air into the outdated genre.
