The Spanish Society of Aesthetic Medicine has awarded the ‘Profesor Juan Ramón Zaragoza’ journalism award to Público for the year 2023. The newspaper’s journalist Sergio Sangiao has been recognized for the report titled ‘Aesthetic medicine centers now surpass pediatric centers in Spain: “The situation is getting out of control”‘. The report highlights that Spain has more than 7,000 health centers with an authorized aesthetic medicine unit, outnumbering pediatric, ophthalmology, and trauma centers in the country. The jury unanimously chose the report as the best contribution to the dissemination and knowledge of aesthetic medicine values to the population.
The award was presented at the opening ceremony of the 39th National Congress of the SEME in Malaga. This congress is considered the most important scientific forum for aesthetic medicine in Spain and brings together more than 2,500 aesthetic doctors. Sergio Sangiao received the award from Dr. Sergio Fernández, second vice president of the SEME, and Dr. Ruth García, a member of the SEME. Dr. Sergio Fernández expressed that the medical society wants to recognize the important work of the media in informing and training the general population about aesthetic medicine.
