Chinese envoy Li Hui has highlighted major differences between Russia and Ukraine on negotiation issues, stating that both parties are at odds but agree on the need for peace talks to end the conflict. This marks the first time Chinese officials have referred to the ongoing situation as a “Russian-Ukrainian war.”
During his recent visit to Russia, Ukraine, and several EU countries, Li Hui emphasized the importance of resolving the conflict through negotiation rather than military action. While China has positioned itself as a neutral mediator in the conflict, it has faced criticism for not condemning Russia’s aggressive behavior and providing economic support to Moscow.
In a briefing on March 22, Li Hui revealed that China and Russia are maintaining communication on the Ukrainian issue, reflecting their strategic collaboration. Despite previously avoiding the term “war,” both China and Russia have now acknowledged the conflict as such.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelensky reported a renewed wave of Russian missile attacks on Ukraine, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure. The conflict shows no signs of abating, with Ukraine facing continued aggression from Russia.
As the situation escalates, the international community is calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. China’s role in negotiations and mediating talks between Russia and Ukraine will be crucial in bringing an end to the conflict and restoring stability in the region.
