Key Biscayne Residents Face Delays Due to Road Closures

MIAMI, Florida – Key Biscayne residents and drivers in nearby parts of Miami are experiencing significant delays and challenges due to road closures caused by a road rehabilitation project. The closures, which began on Sunday, April 14, are expected to last for approximately two months, causing frustration and inconvenience for those traveling to and from the island.

The westbound SR 913/Rickenbacker Causeway flyover bridge, connecting to southbound SR 5/US 1/South Dixie Highway, and SR 9A/I-95 heading north, has been closed by contractors for rehabilitation work on the concrete pavement on the bridge decks. This closure has resulted in long delays and stranded drivers, prompting the Florida Department of Transportation to provide detailed maps of the closures and detours to assist drivers in navigating the affected areas.

According to Michael Vega, spokesperson for the City of Miami Police Department, efforts are underway to assist with the traffic congestion and evaluate the situation. “We are trying to evaluate the problem and help with this,” Vega said in a statement to Telemundo 51.

While eastbound traffic is not affected by the closures, drivers are encouraged to exercise patience and caution when navigating alternative routes during the closure period. The City of Miami Police Department is working to alleviate the congestion and ensure the safety of drivers during this challenging time.

Residents and visitors of Key Biscayne are advised to plan their routes accordingly and allow for extra travel time due to the ongoing road closures. The road rehabilitation project is necessary for improving road infrastructure, but the inconveniences caused by the closures are being felt by many in the community.
