Norwegian King Harald will permanently work less due to his age. The 87-year-old king has returned to work since Monday after several months of sick leave.

“Due to his age, the king will adjust his program in the future. This entails a permanent reduction in the number and scope of the activities in which he participates,” the court said. “Practical arrangements are also being made for the conduct of its official activities.”
Harald is “pleased” to be able to return to work. He resumes his “constitutional duties”, as well as meetings and audiences at the Royal Palace and official visits in Norway.
Harald, Europe’s oldest monarch, contracted an infection in February while on holiday in Malaysia. He was admitted to hospital and fitted with a temporary pacemaker. At the beginning of March he was fitted with a permanent pacemaker in a hospital in Norway. He has been on sick leave since then.
