Two French ski mountaineers in difficulty were rescued in Val Varaita (Cuneo) thanks to the intervention of the Dragoon 66 fire brigade helicopter of the Piedmont flight department, at an altitude of 3,100 meters above sea level, in the Pontechianale area.
They were stuck along an icy gully on a stretch with a 45-degree slope. Two rescuers were lowered from the helicopter onto the vertical.
“The precarious situation – explain the firefighters – required a release maneuver with anchors made with ice axes”. The intervention concluded with the return to the safe area, with the help of a team of Alpine Rescue technicians engaged in the approach maneuver from the valley.
