The issue of the readiness and resilience of sustainable smart cities in the face of climate and environmental challenges is the subject of the second edition of the international symposium on smart cities, which began on Tuesday, February 27, in the city of Berkane, at the initiative of the region’s workers.

This meeting, organized in partnership, in particular, with the Regional Council of Berkane and the local development company “Majal Berkane”, is an opportunity to answer a set of questions and problems, and a meeting point between representatives of environmental organizations, relevant institutions and civil society, to study methods of adaptation and reducing the effects of climate change. , depending on scientific research and modern technology.

During the opening session of this symposium, the participants discussed the concept of the smart city, which aims to respond to demographic, environmental and economic challenges by adopting smart governance in the territorial field, by rationalizing the use of resources and improving public services provided to citizens.

In a speech on the occasion, Minister of Solidarity, Social Inclusion and Family, Awatif Hayar, stressed the importance of this international symposium, which presents the city of Berkane as a successful and pioneering smart experience, especially in the field of using digitalization to bring social and economic services closer to citizens, in addition to improving the field system in general.

After referring to the services provided by the Ministry through the digital bridge system, Ms. Hiar highlighted that the Berkane region will be linked to this system with the support of the region’s workers and the regional council for the benefit of the citizen and making him a participant in the economic and social development for which digitization is a lever.
