Benefit evening for victims of the earthquake

Just over a year ago, in February 2023, strong earthquakes shook southeastern Turkey and northern Syria. Many thousands of people died or were seriously injured. Millions of people are still homeless and live in catastrophic conditions. In order to support local aid projects, the Tübingen Earthquake Relief Action Alliance is organizing a charity evening on Tuesday, February 27th, 7 p.m., at Sparkassen Carré, Mühlbachäckerstraße 2. Admission begins at 6 p.m.

There is international finger food such as börek, sarma and Çig Köfte as well as cakes and drinks for a donation. After a video on the situation in the earthquake areas and a minute’s silence, Deniz Tekin, spokesman for the Integration Council, gives a greeting. The participating clubs then report on the current situation and relief activities on site. The musical design is provided by the Kurdish-speaking singer Diyar, the Arabic-speaking Ugarit Band and the Kurdish-speaking singer Zeynep Enhas. The city’s integration officer Mihriban Sahin moderates the event.

Tickets are available for five euros from the Citizens and Tourist Association on their website at www.tueticket.de or at the box office. If you can’t come to the event yourself but would like to help, you can buy a solidarity ticket. All proceeds from tickets and food will benefit local reconstruction and health care projects in the earthquake areas. Donations can also be paid into the account of the Waldhäuser-Ost district meeting with the intended purpose “Earthquake Benefit Turkey/Syria” (DE40 6039 1310 0026 7940 04).

The charity evening is organized by the Earthquake Relief Action Alliance, which came about on the initiative of the Tübingen Integration Council and the city’s Equality and Integration Office. The following associations are taking part: the Alevi Community of Tübingen Surroundings, Al-Kalema, the Democratic Kurdish Social Center Reutlingen-Tübingen, Dialogue and Education, Russian Association for Integration and Culture and the Waldhäuser Ost district meeting place.
