In 2023, the checks carried out by the financial police and customs agency officials at the border crossings between Italy and Switzerland in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola area made it possible to intercept 2 million and 300 thousand euros of undeclared currency, in addition to precious watches and luxury leather goods worth, respectively, 200 thousand and 100 thousand euros. By 2022, almost 4 million had been intercepted.
There were 117 reports drawn up for violation of currency regulations: in eight cases the seizure was carried out, for an amount of almost 400 thousand euros, while in the remaining 109 cases the travelers paid over 47 thousand euros in oblation.
