Expert: The CCP distorts the concept of democracy to challenge the international order | Freedom and Democracy | Constitutional Democracy | National Violence

[Epoch Times October 16, 2021](The Epoch Times reporter Li Xin’an interviewed and reported) Recently, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Xi Jinping stated at the National Peopleā€™s Congress that there are ā€œmultiple waysā€ to realize democracy. To judge”. Some experts believe that the CCP wants to change the definition of democracy, confuse the audience, and challenge the international community.

From October 13th to 14th, during the working meeting of the Peopleā€™s Congress of the Communist Party of China, Xi Jinping said at the meeting that democracy is an ā€œimportant concept that the Communist Party has always adhered to.ā€ It depends on the right to vote, and even more so on whether the people have “wide participation rights.”

Li Youtan, a professor at the National Institute of Development Studies at National Chengchi University in Taiwan, told The Epoch Times that the CCP has distorted democratic politics by misinterpreting the three connotations of democratic politics, competition, participation, and freedom into participation. To interpret democracy, we must use the concepts of liberal democracy and constitutional democracy to break all of the CCP’s stuff.

He explained, ā€œDemocracy is not only about participation. It also emphasizes the need for competition. It must ensure that the people have all kinds of freedom to make competition and participation fair. This is the life of American political scientist Robert Dahl who has studied democratic politics. The three concepts sorted out, called competition, participation, and freedom, are indispensable.”

First, citizens must have universal freedom. For example, freedom of press and speech, freedom of the media, freedom of people’s assembly, freedom of thought and speech. Like the United States or Taiwan, politicians participate in political parties to participate in elections, and the people have the freedom to guarantee the fairness of election competition, including the freedom to form parties. The people can decide the policy direction through votes.

Second, in addition to freedom and democracy, contemporary democratic politics is called constitutional democracy, which is based on the constitution. The power of the government is a limited government, with checks and balances of power, with the purpose of safeguarding human rights. This is a very important core value of democratic politics.

“The power of the Communist Party is unlimited. Xi Jinping steps down or the Communist Party will rule forever. The People’s Congress is the ruling machine of centralized politics. The more people who represent the people, the more he is controlled by the Communist Party. All decisions are made by the Party. Give the people’s congress, the people’s congress as a rubber stamp.” He said.

Everyone is in danger under the tyranny of the CCP

The CCP has always claimed that China is the largest democracy in the world today. Li Youtan pointed out that the CCP interprets democratic politics as a collective concept, and everything must be in line with the CCP. It is the tyranny of the majority that suppresses the minority at any time, and has no individual or minority rights. As long as anyone does not listen to it, whoever is suppressed.

“The democracy we are talking about is called liberal democracy and constitutional democracy. What is the democracy of the Chinese Communist Party? It is the people’s democratic dictatorship, which is basically a centralized dictatorship. If it does not recognize it, it will suppress others at any time.”

He cited as an example: Hong Kong was suppressed until the National Security Law was enacted. Democrats did not even run for election because candidates had to be vetted before they were eligible. They wanted “patriots to rule Hong Kong”. So who is a patriot? It is up to the CCP to decide.

“So under the prostitution of the CCP, Hong Kong people have regressed from the freedom and human rights guaranteed by the United Kingdom to’one country, one system’, and regressed to being victimized at any time. Under the national security law, everyone is in danger.”

Li Youtan pointed out that the CCPā€™s party-state system is a three-in-one system of party, government, and state, and treats state power as the partyā€™s private property. Any disagreement with the Communist Partyā€™s rule is a crime of subverting state power. This in itself is state terrorism, it is state violence. Under the rule of the CCP, anyone can suffer.

“We in Taiwan were under authoritarian rule in the early days. After moving towards democratization, the people’s greatest right is freedom from fear. There are no more political prisoners, prisoners of thought, and prisoners of conscience. Compared with the CCP, in mainland China, anyone They can commit crimes at any time. Regardless of whether they are economic crimes or political crimes, everyone is at risk, even Xi Jinping himself is not safe. None of them in China is free.ā€ He said.

CCP lies cannot confuse people

Hu Ping, the honorary editor-in-chief of “Beijing Spring” magazine, also believes that the CCPā€™s old tune has been replayed, and there is nothing new in it. “This also gives us an opportunity to clarify the original meaning of democracy once again. The original meaning of democracy is not just voting, but more importantly, free, open, and competitive elections. This is the key.”

He recalled that in the late 1970s and early 1980s, county and district-level peopleā€™s deputies elections were held in various parts of China, including the Haidian District Peopleā€™s Deputies election at Peking University in 1980. “There was only one election. It embodies the true meaning of the election.”

“But it is also limited to the selection of representatives at the county and district level, and the level is very low. After that, the election of the people’s representatives at the provincial and municipal levels, and the election of the people’s representatives of the National People’s Congress, the people have no right to ask for it.”

After that, the authorities revised the election law, and people lost the right to publicize themselves and debate freely. This is considered a big step backwards. In recent years, the authorities have even gone shirtless. For candidates who have stood up from the public, they have to distribute election materials. The authorities not only do not provide any public platforms, but even arrest people on the charge of “picking and provoking trouble.”

Hu Ping said that the brief elections in the 1980s showed that the CCP didn’t know it, it didn’t understand it, it knew what an election was, and it knew what a real election was, but it was about to engage in fake elections.

“The CCP dare not openly deny elections, or openly deny democracy. It can only distort the meaning of democracy and cause confusion in people’s minds. Now I believe that most people no longer believe in the propaganda of the Communist Party. They all know that it is completely Lies, this is different from the early Communist Party.” He said.

The CCP wins over non-democratic countries against the world

Recently, the CCP’s military has repeatedly sent military aircraft to invade Taiwan’s southwestern airspace, causing tension in the Taiwan Strait. Xi Jinping also delivered a speech to Taiwan at the commemoration of the Revolution of 1911, emphasizing “unification.” The outside world believes that Taiwan, which has achieved freedom and democracy, cannot accept “one country, two systems,” and that Taiwanese will definitely defend Taiwan to the death.

At this time, the CCP once again advertised “socialist democracy.” Li Youtan believes that the CCP’s goal is not only for Taiwan, but for the whole world. “Of course it also includes dealing with Taiwan, because Taiwan is using democracy to fight the CCP, but it is against the whole world, not just against free democracies, it wants to win over non-free democracies, and win over the people of Taiwan, saying that they are democracy, and using the great revival of the Chinese nation. To confuse people, we still need a mentality of dominance.”

“Because it now wants to get out of trouble, it has found that there are more and more liberal democratic alliances at various levels in the West, the United States, Britain and Australia, the tripartite security partners, the four-party talks, the Five Eyes alliance, the G20, NATO, or the Asia-Pacific. Countries. The CCP wants to kidnap more non-democratic countries in the world to hug them to keep warm.”

He pointed out that the CCPā€™s encroachment on the free world has already been conquered in many places. Many organizations like the United Nations are occupied by it, and they all win over some small countries, give them money, and get votes. Including many ungovernmental organizations around the world, many organizations of the United Nations have been bought by the CCP.

“Because the ruler of an authoritarian country, he hopes that his power will not be challenged. They dare not say that they are free and democratic. They are so-called people’s democracy, or sovereign democracy like Russia, or guided democracy like the Philippines. These are inexplicable. concept.”
