How do homeless people live in Germany? How did you get into this situation? What are the ways to effectively eradicate homelessness and homelessness? The works of Richard Brox deal with these and other questions. The author deals with this topic not as an outsider, but as someone who has experience, as he himself was homeless for 30 years. He recorded his experiences during this time in his moving autobiography “No Roof Over Life”. This became a bestseller and, among other things, won the 2020 Taiwan Openbook Award for the best foreign language non-fiction book of the year. He has now published his latest work, “Germany without a Roof: The New Homelessness,” in which homeless people have their say. It paints a dramatic picture of the development of homelessness in Germany, but also shows possible solutions.

Richard Brox will read from both works on April 12, 2024 in the Ideas Realm of the university library. Participants will have the opportunity to talk to the author. The event starts at 7:00 p.m. The reading is organized jointly by the university library and the “Donation Piggy Bank Rosalie” initiative, which supports the homeless through donations. The name comes from the fact that founder Janice Schmelzer set aside half of her pocket money every month from the age of 13 to help homeless people.
