Tensions outside the Olimpico before and after the Lazio-Roma Italian Cup derby. Fascist gestures and chants before the match by some Lazio fans, clashes with the police by Roma ultras at the end of the match.
The first serious episode, which follows the controversy over the Roman salutes at the commemoration for three young people from the Youth Front killed in Acca Larentia in 1978, happened at Ponte Milvio, where a group of Biancocelesti fans met before going to the stadium Olimpico: here they made the fascist salute by singing “Avanti boys from Buda”, a Hungarian song from the 1950s against the Soviet dictatorship which is counted among the songs of right-wing extremism. “Hidden among the school books I too will carry a gun”, says a verse of the song.
After the match won by Lazio, some Roma fans were the protagonists of moments of tension: two groups of two hundred people each attempted to reach the Ponte Milvio area while the outflow from the stadium was underway, to come into contact with the Lazio fans. There were also stones and firecrackers thrown at the police, who however managed to prevent contact and responded with some charges, dispersing the attackers.
Three fans were stopped by the police and their whereabouts are being investigated. Investigations have been launched to trace the other participants in the clashes.
There was also a tense atmosphere in the stands before the Lazio-Roma match. During the warm-up of the two teams there was an exchange of firecrackers and smoke bombs between the two fans. In particular between the Curva Sud (occupied by the Giallorossi fans) and the Tribuna Tevere (occupied by the Biancocelesti fans). Also observing the scene was José Mourinho, who approached together with the Giallorossi team manager to understand what was happening between the two sectors. However, there was no need for the intervention of the police.
